What a great month of golf we have had, some amazing scores and we have been having lots of members participating each week. We look forward to the autumn months when the weather is cooler. The ground staff continue to do an amazing job with the course considering the lack of rain.
The month of November has proven to be the ‘scoring month’ for golfers at Duntryleague with some great individual performances by members whilst the weather has been favorable and the course being presented in nothing less than exceptional condition.
The coveted Monthly Medal was hosted by Chris and Wendy Dwyer on the 3 November with Hugh Johnston (alias Rory Johnston) returning the best score on the day with 66 net from his 15 handicap to win the Medal over Phil Hodges and Andrew Kermode who both returned 67 net scores. James Conran scored a 1 under par 69 to collect the scratch score on the day with Hugh and Phil also picking up the scratch prizes for their respective Grades.
The annual Captains v Presidents day was hotly contested with the 4BBB Stableford event being sponsored by our insurance and risk specialist Steve Duff representing Austbrokers Risk and Insurance Services. Although many members were torn between which leader they wished to represent on the day, it was the eventual selection strategies adopted by the Club Captain that paved the way for a comfortable victory over the hapless Presidents Team. President John Cook was gracious in defeat in handing over the largest piece of silverware that could be found in the trophy cabinet with a very humble Captain Dennis Schultz praising his team on such a resounding victory.
The Captain led from the front combining with our new GM in Jason Kitchingman to return the best score of the day with 47 points and get the gong over the team of the ‘Brothers Currall’ (Will and David) on 46 pts, President’s stalwarts Errol Babbage and Jock Sampson on 45 and John Bird and Brian Ross collecting fourth place on 45 points.
New member and big hitting Kim Makaroff cleaned up the field with a blistering 45 points from his 11 handicap to street all competitors in the ATS Equipment (Andrew Swain) sponsored event on the 17th. Kim swings like Superman (faster than a speeding bullet) and send the ball into orbit on every shot and was ecstatic about his maiden victory at his new Club. Yarrawonga visitor Graeme Foster returned 42 points for 2nd Place and Louis Fardell collecting the 3rd place voucher with 40 points.
The monthly Printhie Plate 4BBB Stableford event was conducted on the 21st November with event sponsor Jim Swift combining with Glenn Davis to take home the Printhie Wine Products returning 49 Points. Colin (Triple O) Radford teamed up with Richard Benson to also return 49 points with Chris Durack and David Ferguson also returning the same scores as the winners but were beaten by the count back system. I am sure all winners will enjoy the Printhie Wine Products but non more so than Jim himself.
To finish the golfing month off the 36 Hole Hahn Open Amateur Championship was hotly contested with local star James Conran winning his 5th Open event this Spring with a 4 under par 136 to collect his 2nd victory in this Championship. Tom McCardell was victorious in winning the coveted George Stone Cup for the best net score returned by a Duntryleague player. All in all a successful event attracting over 70 visiting players to our Club with the course in outstanding condition and great support by our Club Brewers Lion Nathan. Tournament scores can be viewed on our website under General News.
