Wednesday the 3rd of July opened the Men’s monthly calendar with an individual stableford. In division 1 John Ryan took full advantage of the excellent conditions to blitz the field with an outstanding 44 points. Ryans ultra consistent game enabled him to edge long hitting Tim White into second place. Whites played superbly to card a par round and total of 40 points. Corey Sams continued his excellent form placing third with 38 points. Division 2 Reg Wells played solidly and posted a tally of 38 points just in advance of Dave Dickenson (37) and Peter Close third (35). Balls went down to 32 points. A great field of 142 golfers contested in a larger than normal winter Saturday for the July Monthly medal played on Saturday 6th of July. Thanks to Phil Hodges representing accounting firm Yates Baker and Mclean for their long time a loyal sponsorship. The Medal winner came from B Grade and saw popular club member Adrian Acheson shoot the lights out to card a 79 – 15 – 64 net also accounting for the B Grade scratch as well. This was Adrian’s first medal win and considering the tough conditions and banter that would have come his way from his playing group is an outstanding effort. B grade runner up was Pat Webster (70 net) one shot clear of Rob Waddell. Competition was closely contested in A grade with Peter Bell relegating Peter Snowden to second on a count-back, both with net 69. Andrew Hall came in third with net 70. Best Scratch in A grade was 71 from Steve Conran. C Grade – the unlucky Gordon Pattinson claimed first with 64 net and losing the medal by a count-back. Josh Jasprizza played a solid round to claim second (69 net) and pipping Bob Lulham on a count-back. Lulham made up for the count-back by taking out the C grade scratch honours with 88. Overall NTP was claimed by the medico Bruce Whitmill who put it to 94cm on the 7th hole. Ball run down on the day was 74 net which was a true indicator of the difficult conditions. Thanks once again to Phil and the team at YBM.
Wednesday the 10th attracted a strong field with Alistair Calder grabbing the major prize in division 1 posting 39 points over Andrew Stapleton’s whose superior back nine saw him claim second over Kim Makaroff and David Parfett all with 36 points. Division 2 was a closely contested affair seeing Doug Pigot take the spoils with a sound 36 points over Glenn Davis (35pts) who edged out Darryl Conran (34pts).
