Another year almost over. As usual it seems to have flown despite the lockdown. My theory why it goes so quickly is that the older I get the less I remember.

Points of Interest

  • Canobolas Cup – what a wonderful event for the players. Thank you to Helen Corby for your sponsorship and to Janis Pritchard for sponsoring the Consolation Cup. The final of the Canobolas Cup was contested in a relaxed and friendly way between Sally Kay and Virginia Conran with Sally Kay the eventual winner. Congratulations Sally. The Consolation Cup was between Jo Hunter and Dawn Roberts with Jo Hunter taking out the trophy.
  • Can Assist Charity – it was great to see so many visitors enjoying the day. Winners were Wendy Brown, Cheryl Bennett, Pam Wright and Dawn Roberts. Sponsors were Shirley Doherty, Janis Pritchard, Dot Beasley, Margaret Shannon and Jill Benson. Thank you to the pro shop for donating a golf lesson for a prize.
  • October Monthly Medal was won by Oldie Prosser-Fenn with a nett 70. Thank you to Julie Mendham for the lovely raffle prize.
  • Sadie Thomas Memorial sponsored by Alan and Aileen Ralston was won by the formidable team of Kez Brett and Sue Harris.
  • Medal of Medals – Congratulations to Jo Hunter for winning the prestigious trophy with a nett 70. Well done Jo.
  • I would like to make a special mention of Jo Hunter and Sally Kay on their amazingly successful year of golf. It is not often that low handicappers can win almost all major events, well done girls. Maybe we all need some of their dedication to their sport.

Upcoming Events

  • Closing Day 16th November – if you are able to bring a plate for afternoon tea it would be much appreciated. Cost will be $25. Thank you to Cheryl and Richard Bennett from  GIO Orange for your sponsorship.
  • AGM – 23rd November – Shotgun start and meeting to commence around 2.30pm. Sponsored by Bron Ryan, Barb Mutton and Sally Keenan
  • Christmas Cheer 7th December – There is a basket in the ladies room for your donations for the hampers please. We also have a very generous donation from Espen from the Oriana Motel as a raffle prize. Tickets will be 3 for $5. It will be a shotgun start followed by lunch. Lunch will be $30 and money needs to be paid to the office by 30th November. Sponsors for the day are Kevin and Elaine Cusack with lovely hams and Hattie and Ben Crossing from Angullong wines.
  • Casual Dinner and Drinks Thursday 9th December – a non-golfing upcoming event, but still a great one to be part of. Anyone who is keen to come up and share dinner and a few drinks on the deck together. We have a great culture amongst our ladies, events like this really help that continue. Pre-book with the club.

Help Needed with new Golfers

Matt and Nathan have had an excellent response with their Women’s Give Golf a Go Program. What we need now, is for some of our regular golfers to mentor these new golfers, take them out on course, help them feel comfortable with the rules and the etiquette. If you can spare some time to do this, it would be fantastic. It really helps to break down the barriers of that next step to becoming a regular golfer. Let us know your availability and we’ll match new players with current players and hopefully help boost our Membership ranks. You can let any of the committee members know that you are available to help out.
