The Duntryleague Annual Veterans Tournament was held this week with 120 veteran golfers participating. This Tournament has been held the in the first week of October for near on 50 years and it attracts Veteran golfers men and ladies from all over. This year there were 23 clubs represented and they included many from all over the state including a group from Queensland. The largest contingent were from the Shell Harbour Golf Club numbering 19.
Weatherwise we were very fortunate as the two main days of individual Stableford were perfect spring and that set the scene for some remarkable scores being returned. Unfortunately Thursday proved the total opposite turning cold and raining. Many of the visitors opted to go home early not wanting to load up their cars with wet golfing gear but as always in the golfing world there are the few hardy ones who do not want to let an opportunity to play stayed and weathered the wet and cold conditions.
Course Superintendent Grant Barrett and his team presented the course beautifully and the compliments flowed from all the golfers were many. Great scores were achieved during the two days and many of the locals shone at presentations with Don Pearce taking out the 36 Hole overall event for the men with scores of 75 closely followed by Jim Norris 74. Lynne Woodward from Wakehurst took out the Ladies section with a combined score of 77 with Gay stone runner up on 75.
Many of this year’s participants have already booked their accommodation and carts for 2019 which will be from the 7th to 10th October.
